The Art of Stage Combat at The Music Hall Academy

En garde! Recently, 18 kids of The Music Hall Academy trained in the art of stage combat on The Music Hall stage and in our studio. Supported by our staff of professional theater educators, trained stage combat expert Chris Smalley delivered master classes in footwork, falls and contact, cuts and parry, unarmed techniques, and, of course, safety. Then, our 2nd and 3rd graders created original scenes based on well known characters, and interjected weaponless and often hilarious combat scenes into the story. Our older kids reenacted famous scenes from Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, and a Midsummer Night’s Dream. Everyone performed outside at Patriot’s Park on a beautiful afternoon for friends and family. This was a week nobody will forget!
