Franz Hackl is not just a seasoned trumpet player; he is also an accomplished composer and skilled brass instrument maker with over 30 years of teaching experience. He is the founder and artistic director of the Outreach Music Festival & Academy, a transformative summer educational program in his native Austrian Alps.

His musical journey has graced the world’s most prestigious stages, where he’s not only a captivating soloist, but also a dynamic ensemble leader. From the Theater an der Wien to iconic jazz venues like The Jazz Standard, Blue Note, and Dizzy’s Club at Jazz at Lincoln Center, his trumpet has left a lasting impression.

Franz is the creative force behind an array of exceptional ensembles. He leads the innovative brass trio B3+ with Dave Taylor (trombone) and John Clark (french horn), heads up the renowned IDO Quartet, and engages in a dynamic duo project with Grammy Winner Leo Genovese (piano). His collaborations extend to esteemed classical artists, including Dietmar Küblböck, principal trombonist of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, reflecting his dedication to musical diversity and excellence.

Franz holds a Concert Diploma from The Music Conservatory of the City of Vienna and a Master of Music Degree from Manhattan School of Music.
